The Weekend Murders / Concerto per pistola solista (Michele Lupo, 1970)

(1/18) > >>

Kevin Coed:
Although this is in Adrian Luthor Smith's Blood & Black Lace book I wouldn't really classify it as a giallo. Really it's a spoof of Agatha Christie with a little bit of The Cat and the Canary (which would have been old hat even then). Far-flung members of a family all convene for the reading of the will at the estate of a recently deceased relative. When the contents of it are revealed to be less than satisfactory to them  people start popping their clogs.

A seemingly-inept local policeman investigates the crimes with the assistance of an inspector from Scotland Yard (played by Lance Percival of all people). The majority of the murders take place off-screen so all you're left with is a routine whodunnit that focuses all it's attention on characterisation on people who couldn't really give a toss about. Of particular annoyance is Georgie (apparently played by Chris 'Eric Pollard from Emmerdale' Chittell but I didn't recognise him) a strange man-child who fakes his own death to much hilarity. What a japester he is.
Picked up for distribution by MGM this was released on a double-bill in the US with Black Belly of the Tarantula.

Jonny:
I've always put off seeing this film after being told on many occasions that it was a bit of a snoozer. Always had a thing for Evelyn Stewart though so I might still get around to seeing this one day.

Kevin Coed:
If you go into it not expecting too much then it'll pass the time nicely. Just don't expect to see a giallo.

Jonny:
I'll give it a try one afternoon.  :'(

Paul:
I have the Pre-cert of this - still haven't seen the film - I'll try and remember to scan the back cover when I'm at home, and post it in here.
