Quite enjoyed this Sicilian based Mafia story. Giancarlo Prete stars as a police commissioner out to stop local Mafia boss Don Peppino Scalise (Raymond Pellegrin). It's the usual tale of corruption and dirty deals but is made all the more watchable by the appearance of Sal Borgese and Stelio Candelli as Scalise's hitmen. Nice score from Bruno Nicolai that reminded me a lot of Morricone's score for INVESTIGATION OF A CITIZEN ABOVE SUSPICION.

Watched the Greek VHS which has been cropped from its original 'scope ratio, the telecine guy at least makes an effort though and tries to pan and scan the image as best he can to keep everyone in frame when they are talking on screen.

I'm almost sure budget Italian label H&W released this a few months back, can anyone confirm?

Superb score, some of it was reused in Mario Pinzauti's DUE MAGNUM.38 PER UN CITTÁ DI CAROGNE a year later.

I really enjoyed this one.  I have a dvdr from the Greek release as well.  It has a very focused, mechanical plot, which moves from, seemingly, killing to killing.  I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Ricci.   ;D

The Big Family / L'onorata famiglia uccidere è cosa nostra (Tonino Ricci, 1973)
is one of the most important Italian crime films still unreleased on DVD in Italy or anywhere. A great film, great cast with a great Gianni Ferrio soundtrack. How can this still be unreleased is beyond me.

I haven't seen this one but it looks interesting. Tonino Ricci is a director who is usually described as a hack but I quite like him. It's true that some of his films are a rather bad (I particularly dislike THE SHARKS' CAVE and ENCOUNTERS IN THE DEEP) but man did make a lot of wonderfully enjoyable films too. His giallo CROSS CURRENT, the western WHITE FANG TO THE RESCUE and the post-apocalypse adventure RAGE are all great fun!

Then this has to be his best one!
