Old news to some, but important nevertheless; Media Blasters/Shriek Show are planning to release a remastered DVD of Lucio Fulci’s excellent LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN. They dropped the ball with the last release by including two versions of the film; a widescreen print of the cut, English language version and an uncut Italian print culled from an inferior source (Beta). So, this is great news; the film is a terrific giallo, with the perfect blend of thrills and leaze. Bring it on!

It's a natural progression to move from the cop films to the gialli - many are cross overs, like Dallamano's SOLANGE and Martino's SUSPECTED DEATH OF A MINO. I got into the gialli first, and then my interest in cop flicks evolved from that. The gialli tend to be a lot more stylish but many lack the humour that make the cop films so enjoyable.

I can totally see where you're coming from - I have a massive stack of spaghetti westerns to get my teeth into. you've just got to start watching the gialli. Make sure you start with the Argento and Bava films you've not seen, followed by the Fulci, Martino and Lenzi flicks. Yes, I am quite aware of the background on the titles you mention. I've read numerous articles on them and I have a friend that worships the films.

that's right - the 80s weren't exactly a vintage time for any Italian exploitation films, were they?

Vintage... no. The "vintage look" and feel that Italian films had was lost during the early 80s. However, there were still great movies being made. As far as gialli go, STAGEFRIGHT is a good example and so is Lamberto Bava's DELIRIUM aka PHOTOS OF GIOIA (out on Media Blasters). The 80s had their own style, that's for sure.

As for the vintage thing- its obviously loved by all members of this forum. However there are times when I am not in a mood for watching vintage stuff and need something "lighter" if you know what I mean- perhaps even some 90s TV movie
