Run time is 99m 32s, so it sounds like it's running at PAL speed and hasn't been converted to NTSC with the 4% slow down.

I have more than a few of the Cult Epics Brass titles and I think they are all PAL-NTSC but most of them are still so-far definitive (subtitled uncut versions of THE VOYEUR, ALL LADIES DO IT, MONELLA whose English versions were cut).

I watched the Cult Epics disc last night and really enjoyed seeing it again - the English subs make a big difference. It's a wonderfully vibrant and fun pop-art murder mystery. Brass's cut-aways in this are a real nice touch. Shots of people obviously being nosey whilst filming are cut in, as are fun shots of stuff like a cinema and the nice Blow Up poster out front.  I'm sure I could hear some early Rolling Stones track toward the end of the film which was dampened by Trovajoli's pounding hammond organ soundtrack.

It's a real pity that the original English track seems to have vanished without trace though as it was clearly shot in English. The rapid-editing sequences are intact here too, which I hear were cut out of the Italian disc.

I did start watching it again this morning with the Tinto Brass commentary - I'd say this will be really interesting. I'll try to finish it off soon hopefully.

The only English source seems to be that Super 8 UK version unless Paramount has it in their vaults.

The upcoming boxed set is supposed to contain DEADLY SWEET, THE HOWL, and the documentary CA IRA (an exclusive) but Cult Epics is also supposed to release NEROSUBIANCO under its English title ATTRACTION (before Metzger's Audubon Films retitled it THE ARTFUL PENETRATION OF BARBARA).

I'm doing the review of DEADLY SWEET for DVDBeaver.

I've read that the Cult Epics dvd has ghosting and motion-blurring due to the pal-ntsc transfer...is it really that bad?
I was hoping of getting this one for the rapid cut sequences...

does anyone know whether Cult Epics will release all three movies separately, or will L'horla and/or Nerosubianco only be available as part of the box set?
I can't find any info on this on their website.
it seems they've deleted the section on the third box set, probably cause they've had to cancel the documentary.

I watched this tonight and really enjoyed it.  It may be my favorite release of the year so far.  It's that good.  In addition to the films overt Antonioni influences, quoting the director in the film, lobby cards from BLOW-UP, a photo shoot in a photographer's studio in which models ending up nude on the floor..

...there's also plenty of Jean Luc Godard, think WEEK END, PIERROT LE FOU or A WOMAN IS A WOMAN, running through this film with it's use of primary colors, inter-titles, advertising, found word and comic book images and the film's closing credits which mimic WEEK END's use of splitting words up based on an equal number of letters & spaces per line, though this last reference may just be a happy coincidence since WEEK END and COL CUORE IN GOLA were both released in 1967.

Pop Art Film Noir,  Comic Book Giallo, Psychedelic Gangster/Crime Film, whatever you want to call it, there is plenty going on in DEADLY SWEET to please any Euro-Cultist.  I wouldn't be surprised if Donald Cammell and Nic Roeg viewed this before making PERFORMANCE or Lucio Fulci saw it before filming his London based LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN.  The one disappointing aspect, IMO, of the Cult Epic's DVD is the quality of the transfer. It is interlaced, and appears to be a sped up PAL to NTSC conversion (the DVD list the film at 105 minute but it actually runs 100).  Watch the 3min 24 sec trailer afterwords and see what this DVD might have looked like with the proper materials and authoring. Still, the movie itself is a cinematic corker that packs quite a wallop.

I actually contacted Cult Epics about their transfers, providing links to reviews and screenshots detailing ghosting and other problems. The response was, in a nutshell, that the transfers are of the highest possible quality and the problems are most likely due to incorrect system set ups.

The correspondence was perfectly pleasant but we quickly came to an impasse.

I'd say their response is due to UTTER BS.

I have no doubt that the source was the best available (the original English version only seems to exist as a Super 8 UK release and Paramount does have a copy of their redubbed version) but the way Cult Epics is set up seems to be that they have the lab do the PAL-NTSC conversion and a proper one costs more than a standards conversion (though, from what I understand, if they could capture the PAL Betacam image to a large enough external hard drive, they could resize the image, slow down the framerate and the audio on an NLE for less).  Not all of the faults of the transfers start with the PAL-NTSC conversion.  I've been told that MONELLA was a one-light analogue transfer and that the cropping of the 1.66:1 original aspect ratio to 1.78:1 on some of the newer films was done by the licensor - which is further evinced by the R2 releases.

Just got Raro's new subtitled disc of the director's cut of THE KEY (which runs 5 minutes longer than Cult Epic's cut which itself was a cut 5 minutes longer than the original Italian release) and it looks lovely.  It's 1.66:1, 16:9, and even the interview is subtitled in English.
